Eco/Sustainable Initiatives

The blueberries grown on Black Pearl Farms are as natural today as they were 200 years ago. Certified Organic by Clemson University’s Department of Plant Industry, our blueberry growing process focuses on using renewable resources, conserving soil and water, taking advantage of the natural climate and preserving the harmonious biodiversity surrounding the river.

At Black Pearl Farms, we want to provide the freshest, sweetest and juiciest blueberries while protecting their natural environment for future generations.

The History of the Pearl

Founded in 2008, Black Pearl Farms originally served as a recreational reservation. Over time, founder David Anderson learned more about blueberry production practices and became determined to produce blueberries on the land through eco-friendly, sustainable processes.

Today, more than 15 acres of blueberry bushes thrive on the Black Pearl land, promoting wild and plant life as well as water conservation efforts through their production.

Blueberries

The Inspiration & Foundation

Originally a hunting and fishing reserve, David noticed the wild blueberries sprouting around the Black Pearl land and got to thinking. These blueberries, harvested by nature, were the best, perfectly ripened blueberries he’d ever tasted.

Inspired by the natural process, by the land and by the refreshing flavors around him, David decided to share what he’d found on his patch of earth.

along the gnarls & sands of the flowing black water river

that’s where you’ll find the black pearl

The closer you get to the Edisto River, the thicker it gets. The water is thick and black. The air is thick, heavy and humid. And the plants and trees weave powerful, deep roots through the earth while cicadas buzz in the heat and songbirds celebrate life. This land is rich in wildlife and history. It has seen Native Americans and settlers. And it has endured battles and wars. But the Edisto River still runs strong, creating an ideal habitat where animals thrive and plants flourish. Listen and hear ancient oaks creaking. Look and see vibrant, green grass and leaves that provide refreshing shade. Feel the cool, crisp black Edisto water glide by your fingertips. Taste and enjoy the invigoratingly rich and sweet flavor in every fresh, plump Black Pearl blueberry. This is where goodness grows.
